THE AIMS AND FUNCTIONS OF SAIAT
  • SAIAT REPESENTS architectural technologists in South Africa on regional and national levels as well as internationally, and promotes the profession to the public and to the other professions and industries involved in the built environment.
  • SAIAT WORKS alongside the other Voluntary Associations, recognised by the South African Council For The Architectural Profession (SACAP) to cultivate a relationship characterised by a mutual understanding and respect. The aim is to develop an architectural profession where all the role players can work together for the betterment of the profession and South Africa. In this pursuit, SAIAT represents Architectural Technologists and Senior Architectural Technologists on numerous SACAP sub-committees. At this time, these include the Communications, Continuing Professional Development (CPD),Registration Criteria, ReCategories and Identification of Work (sub committee), Registration, Professional Fees and Code of Conduct committees The SAIAT also represents Architectural Technologists on the National Task Group For Architectural Education as well as on the SAQA (South African Qualifications Authority) Standards Generating Body – Sub-Field: Architecture.
  • SAIAT STRIVES to constantly improve and develop the training of Architectural Technologists, through our official journal/magazine - Archi-technology, through regular newsletters and practice workshops, as well as through SAIAT’s involvement and participation in the monitoring and development of architectural education and standards at Institutes and Universities throughout South Africa. Post-graduate educational & professional development is encouraged and prizes and awards for excellence in architectural studies are awarded to successful candidates at the various technikons nationally.
  • SAIAT ENGAGES IN cultivating a culture of responsible architectural practise and environmentally sensitive and socially considerate building developments and stimulates the expression of art and the application of technology in architecture.
  • SAIAT PROVIDES a forum for its members for the exchange of ideas, experience, theories, concepts and developments in the fields of technology and design in architecture.
  • PROFESSIONAL SUPPORT is provided to the members of the institute in the profession through SAIAT’s fully comprehensive and standardised contract and project documentation.
  • SAIAT ENCOURAGES and fosters the culture of excellence in professional practice, conduct and integrity in its members who are bound by the terms of the SAIAT constitution and code of conduct.
  • SAIAT SERVES as a conduit for employment opportunities in the profession and is a facilitator of CPD (Continuing Professional Development) for it's membership.
