Architecture and cultural appropriation occurs when design elements or styles from one culture are copied by another, often without understanding or respect for their original significance, potentially leading to misrepresentation, commodification, or exploitation of the source culture. The line between appreciation and appropriation depends on the power dynamic, the depth of understanding, the authenticity of the use, and whether the context involves collaboration with the originating community, rather than the mere borrowing of symbols for commercial gain or without proper recognition.
